About Me As A Graphic Artist and web designer
If you ask how long I've been a graphic design, I'll tell you "my whole life." Though it wasn't until I completed the rigorous design program at Cal State Fullerton that I'd be willing to call myself a "professional," however I was a designer from the get go.
Personal refection reveals memories of drawing all the state flags for a 1st grade class project and being far more interested in the individual NHL logos than team stats in Middle School. I even tried to find entry with the "cool kids" by painting an Oakley logo on the frames of my drug store sunglasses. (Even then I was enamored with branding!)
Our family's first 486 computer came with a copy of CorelDraw 3.0 and I spent countless hours designing cassette tape covers, flyers and t-shirts I screen printed in my garage. I even did some "layouts" for my xeroxed punk 'zine "Multi-Anti."
I stayed up to date as software versions were updated, switched over to a Mac, and watched with curiosity as this new thing called the internet came into prominence. After learning that there was such a career as "graphic design," I decided to take this new found vocation seriously and get a solid background and education in the foundations of design and aesthetics.
My training and education at Cal State Fullerton was essential to development. I wasn't trained on the latest software or spoon-fed the current trends but instead was schooled in typography by hand and the fundamentals and processes that lead to good design. Furthering my understanding of color and composition, I took a lot of classes in the Fine Art department which lead to second BFA in Drawing and Painting, in addition to the BFA in Graphic Design.
